Always Question

Always, always question. Art is about questioning. It is about searching for understanding. There are two parts to our job. One is to discern our vision the other is to build as many skills and tools as we can so that we can articulate that vision the best we can.

When painting in watercolor, one can alter what has been done. Not only can paint be lifted off the paper, it can be a beautiful way of creating soft edges. Float pigment on your paper. Let it dry. Then take a brush damp with clean water ( damp not dripping) and try brushing gently over the paper.

Try doing this when the paper from the first washes is still some what moist. Each of these  will create a different affect.

I spend so much time playing trying different things. When I have something I want to communicate, I often need a new tool and that is when I play trying to figure out what that tool might be. We so need to always push new ways of achieving…..
