VALUES
  Lights to Darks
    Use values to delineate shapes
Use  values to sharpen or diffuse edges
    Use values to emphasize patterns

a value can meld two different objects to make interesting abstract shapes
use value to build texture - it is the difference in values, for example that creates the sense of hair
Two different valued planes come together to create an edge

MEASURING
  1.  Key to seeing accurately and therefore for drawing. Measuring helps see what really is instead of what we think exists
  2.  Hold pencil out- arm locked keep it parallel to picture plane.
  3. Measuring the size of objects by lining up the top of the dowel with object being measured and using a finger for the bottom.
  4. Then hold that proportion up to another object.
  5.   It is important not to angle it away or towards you as that is depth that is not a dimension on the picture plane
